SOULSHINE HOLISTIC COUNSELING

EMPOWERING MINDS, HEALING HEARTS, NURTURING SOULS

"When you can't find the light
That guides you through a cloudy day
When the stars ain't shinin' bright
And you feel like you've lost your way
When the candle lights of home
Burn so very far away
Well you got to let your soulshine"

-"Soulshine" by Warren Haynes

THE STORY OF SOULSHINE

For over 12 years, I've been professionally devoted to the field of eating disorder treatment as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. During the COVID-19 pandemic,  noticed a significant increase in individuals struggling with food and body-related challenges. Many who sought help reported difficulty finding specialists with the necessary expertise in treating eating disorders. Additionally, numerous medical professionals reached out to me, expressing their challenges in identifying therapists they were confident referring patients to. Though some therapists claimed to treat eating disorders, they often lacked the extensive training required for collaborative and comprehensive therapy. The pandemic also marked a pivotal time for many athletes, leading to sudden eating disorder onset and a scarcity of outpatient treatment options with the knowledge to work with this specific population. This experience inspired me to establish a business dedicated to addressing these needs, leading to the creation of Soulshine Holistic Counseling. Soulshine Holistic Counseling is a telehealth based therapy company that creates a safe space for anyone struggling with loving themselves and their bodies and/or struggling with an eating disorder.

The name is inspired by the song "Soulshine" by Warren Haynes, which reflects my perspective on the therapeutic journey.

My professional alphabet soup: Licensed Mental Health Therapist (LMHC), Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Supervisor (CEDS-S), Certificate of Advanced Studies in play therapy (CAS), National Board-Certified Counselor (NBCC), ADHD Clinical Services Provider.

Who I really am: A badass woman, Entrepreneur, wife, mother, animal lover (with 3 dogs, 4 cats and a bunny), recovery warrior and advocate and community volunteer. I love all of the parts of me listed above but what I am going to highlight here is how much I love being a therapist. I LOVE being a therapist! I feel so fortunate every time a client trusts me with their deepest wounds, secrets and struggles while also showing me their strengths and superpowers. I always say that I am not an expert on your life. You are the only expert on your own life, even if it doesn't always feel like it. You are always steering the ship, and I am a crew mate by your side holding the map. Through working together, eventually you will learn to hold your own map. I love to learn and read and listen to podcasts. I take pride in being a good therapist. I am down to earth and can usually be seen in sessions wearing a t-shirt, jeans and Birkenstocks. I believe that in order for my clients to be authentic versions of themselves, I also need to be authentic.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  •  I understand how important it is to make the most of your insurance benefits, and I want to ensure you're supported in getting the care you deserve. I currently do not accept traditional insurance.

To help with this, I recommend using Thrizer, a user-friendly tool that assists you in submitting claims for potential reimbursement from your insurance provider. This way, you can still receive the coverage you’re entitled to without any added stress.

If you have any questions or need guidance on how to use Thrizer, I am more than happy to assist you through the process. Thank you for your understanding.

  • This phone consultation is a time where both you and I can briefly discuss what you are seeking counseling for and make sure we are the right fit. Not every counselor is right for every client and visa versa. I understand that going to counseling is a big financial commitment and that most people want to know that it will be a good fit before investing financially. I will do my best during that conversation to help you decide if we would work well together.

  • I think everyone should go to counseling! Talk therapy is wellness for your mind just as you invest in wellness by exercising, getting a physical, eating well, etc. I believe everyone can benefit from having a space that is safe and confidential where they won’t be judged and will be wholly supported.

With the inclusion of social media in our lives, human connection and intimacy has changed dramatically. Many clients tell me that they have trouble finding someone they can trust completely. Going to counseling creates a space, both physically and emotionally, where a client can say anything they want to say and feel anything they want to feel and it cannot leave the room. Who wouldn’t benefit from having 50-minutes of undivided attention on them in a safe, secure and supportive environment? I am proud to say that I go to counseling regularly and I consider it the key to my mental wellness and emotional intelligence.
