Eating Disorder Therapy
I am a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Supervisor (CEDS-S). This certification was earned through The International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) and took years to accomplish. The requirements to earn this certification are extensive and require 2500 hours of eating disorder specific client contact, years of professional supervision, core classes specific to eating disorders, a written essay, letters of recommendation and a final exam. To maintain the certification requires yearly continuing education and mandatory eating disorder conference attendance. The CEDS certification represents an excellence in knowledge in the field and a commitment to maintaining the integrity of professionals who treat those with eating disorders. As mentioned, I am also a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Supervisor meaning I have completed the requirements necessary to supervise other professionals training to become certified through IAEDP.
I offer expert therapy for a wide range of eating disorder challenges. My services include comprehensive therapeutic treatment and collaborative case management for diagnoses such as anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, ARFID, and orthorexia. A client does not need to have a diagnosed eating disorder to attend counseling at Soulshine. Infact, many who come into counseling do not have a diagnosis but recognize areas they struggle in.
Another specific area of interest for me is working with athletes with eating disorders. I have worked with many athletes over the years from high school level to semi-pro but some of the biggest frontline lessons I have learned are from my kids. My kids are athletes so through watching them grow and excel in sports I see the struggles they, and their peers, face when it comes to pressure, time management, food and nutrition and having overall positive self esteem.
I know that no one is just an eating disorder so I do not treat just an eating disorder. As a holistic therapist, I believe people should be treated as a whole and their diagnosis is just a part of them.
